London, FCSH Workshop: Carol Hewson, Ali Messer
Playford Past and Present
Carol Hewson will present a programme of "Playford" dances and Playford-style dances by Fried de Metz at this workshop for experienced dancers. Ali Messer, accordion, will provide the music.
Carol Hewson is known for her clear calling and for the atmosphere she is able to create - we asked her to call again less than 5 minutes after the last workshop ended! She is committed to preserving the vitality of traditional dances and to the future of country dancing, which dancers will observe in this programme of old and more recent dances.
Ali Messer plays in various combinations for folk events across the country; and at all the major festivals.
Tha venue is now The Dance Studio, Acland Burghley School, 93 Burghley Road, London NW5 1UJ.

|The studio is at Acland Burghley School, 93 Burghley Road, London, London, NW5 1UJ. The entrance to the school is 2 minutes’ walk from Tufnell Park tube station on the Northern Line. The 134 bus stops at Tufnell Park Station, as does the 390. On the Overground, Kentish Town is one stop by tube, a short bus journey (134) or a 10 – 15 minute walk.
There are no parking restrictions on Sundays and there is plenty of parking in the nearby residential roads, as well as in Tufnell Park Road. The entrance to Burghley Road from Dartmouth Park Hill is very narrow; the approach from Lady Somerset Road is easier.
There are at least three coffee shops within 5 minutes walk of Tufnell Park Tube, in Fortess Road. Local pubs serving food include the Lord Palmerston on Dartmouth Park Hill at Chetwynd Road, the Junction in Fortess Road and, slightly further, the Tufnell Park Tavern. Ruby Violet in Fortess Road does amazing ice creams. Stingray does pizza and pasta, etc. Nuraghe in Dartmouth Park Hill offers a more ambitious Italian menu.
